Activities
Concurrently, during the SANFIC INDUSTRY week, various activities were held aimed at both participants of the space and the general public, free of charge, with the goal of providing new tools and knowledge related to audiovisual media.
Led by prominent figures from the national and international film industry, the activities revolved around the cinematic universe, industry insights, commercialization, and the exploitation of audiovisual works.
The activities conducted were as follows:
1.- CHILEAN WOMEN CINEMATOGRAPHERS IN CINEMA (Thursday, August 22, 15:00 at GAM)
Broadening perspectives in cinema creation, sharing the experiences of three Chilean women cinematographers to highlight this essential role in audiovisual production. They discussed their projects and reflections on directing with a gender perspective. Participants included Valeria Fuentes Briones, Michelle Bossy Nicolai, and Camila Sherman Cruz.
2.- SHAPING NEW REALITIES IN CHILE: NATIONAL XR (Wednesday, August 22, 11:00 at Matucana 100)
Representatives from different formal and informal training institutions in new realities aimed to bridge the gap with technology, fostering creative talents in Latin America: Natalia Cabrera (Sinestesia Academy, Chile), Pedro Vargas (Universidad Bernardo O’higgins, Chile), Pablo Ortúzar (Campus Creativo, Universidad Andrés Bello, Chile), Isidora Cabezon (CRTI, Chile).
3.- SANFIC SERIES: DIALOGUES WITH CHILEAN SERIES “POEMAS MALDITOS” AND “CECILIA, LA INCOMPARABLE” (Wednesday, August 23, at GAM)
Reflections on the series format, its positioning, and relevance through the experiences of the teams behind Chilean series commissioned by CNTV and premiered in 2023 on Free-to-Air Television: “Cecilia La Incomparable,” a musical miniseries about Cecilia, produced by Hugo Miller Productions and directed by Vanessa Miller; and “Poemas Malditos,” a period thriller produced by Villano and directed by Pepa San Martín and Juan Ignacio Sabatini.
4.- MEET THE CREATORS. SANFIC XR (Thursday, August 24, 12:20 at GAM)
Introducing the creators participating in this edition of SANFIC XR. Key creative individuals from Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay shared insights into their immersive creative and production processes. Ana Arruda, from XR Brazil, director of Curta Brasilia and executive producer at Sétima Cinema, discussed XR in Brazil, the power of new realities, and exhibition and distribution details in the neighboring giant, Brazil.
5.- INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION AND SALES (Thursday, August 24, 16:30 at GAM)
Exploration of the main trends and possibilities for global circulation, distribution, and sales of productions, based on the experiences and perspectives of three key players in the Latin American audiovisual ecosystem: Arturo Pérez (VendoCine, Mexico), Lucía Meik (MeikinCine, Argentina), and Consuelo Castillo (DOC, Colombia).
6.- HISTORY IS OURS (Thursday, August 24, 09:00 at Biblioteca Nicanor Parra UDP)
Four prominent national and international guests from the legal, governmental, production, and content distribution sectors reflected on labor and copyright rights of directors and screenwriters in Chilean audiovisuals. They discussed current contractual practices and the need for protocols to strengthen agreements, considering international advancements in this field.
7.- PERSPECTIVES: CHILEAN CINEMA MADE BY WOMEN (Friday, August 25, 12:20 at GAM)
Four Chilean women directors shared experiences from their recent cinematic projects and discussed what it means to create cinema with a gender perspective in Chile today. Participants included Isabel Reyes, Ignacia Merino, Clea Eppelin, and Alexandra Hyland, moderated by Gabriela Sandoval.
8.- ENCOUNTER WITH SUNDANCE AND QUINZAINE DES CINÉASTES DE CANNES (Friday, August 25, 16:00 at Faculty of Communications UC Auditorium)
Two of the most prominent global film festivals engaged in a conversation with SANFIC to discuss their festival visions, curatorial approaches, and their programming and selection processes. Participants included Álvaro Arroba (Programmer at Quinzaine des Cinéastes de Cannes), Basil Tsiokos (Programmer at Sundance), and Carlos Núñez (Founder and Artistic Director of SANFIC).
